The Ring-tailed Lemur is unique in that his only home is on the African island of Madagascar, both in the trees and along the ground. Due to his limited island digs, the endangered Ring-tailed Lemur’s major threat is the loss of his forest habitat. This furry animal’s favorite foods include fruit, leaves, flowers, tree bark, and sap – Yum! Just like people at the pool, these social primates often sit together with their legs and arms out to sunbathe in the morning, helping them get warm for the day. A special feature the Ring-tailed Lemur has is teeth that are shaped like a comb to help him groom himself and others. He got his name from his vividly striped, black and white tail. Considered a social-butterfly in the animal kingdom, you’ll always find this little guy surrounded by large groups of his nearest and dearest.
