Big fix
Yes, the eyes are horrible! The eyes in the ad look like they doctored them in Photoshop! After putting on the costume on for the first time, I was saddened in how bad the eyes looked, but how well the costume fitted and felt. Using a fresh, clean pair of black mechanix gloves and combat boot, I wanted to look just like the advertised picture.
Luckily, I have some knowledge in soldering LEDs. It took me quite a while (three hours) to completely re-design the eyes to where they are close enough to the picture that's advertised. I had to cut up the LED circuit board provide and rewired them to where they don't interfere with sight as one reviewer already mentioned. To fix the eyes, I took a plastic red gem that wasn’t too hard find at my local craft store. Using a dremel tool, I cut the gem in half and drilled out holes to fit the existing LED lights which I had to relocate as they come crooked on the mask from the factory!
Once all the rewiring was done and the gems were installed, I was very impressed in how the costume looked with my new set of eyes. It does look a lot like the picture that’s advertised as the picture is what sold me to begin with. I’m not going to lie; the rewiring did make the costume more of a challenge to put on top of the chin strap for the horns. I’m very disappointed that the designers that deiced to take the cheap route to such a nice costume.
The reaction received for Halloween 2009 was definitely satisfying. If you don’t mind the modding it takes to make the eyes work right, then this is an awesome costume!
