This item ended up not being true to size at all! Very hard for my daughter to walk in.

This is the prettiest mermaid costume I had seen. Others looked cheap. This was even prettier in person. And seems very well made. Haven't worn it yet for halloween but it seems like it would hold up. It is on the long side but width wise seems true to size.So happy I decided on this one.

I was originally looking at a more expensive Mermaid costume, but with two girls to buy for I chose this more reasonably priced one. It is quite nice. I bought the 4-6 size for my 4 and my 6 year old and it is a little big on the 4 year old and just right for my thin but tall 6 year old. We love it, and especially with the discount code we received in the mail I think it is a good value.

I ordered this for my daughters 5th birthday party next month, "Under the sea" theme. It is excellent quality, the same as a the $50 disney ones we have. It fits just like the picture, long enough to look like a mermaid. She is about 45 inches tall, we ordered the small.

I bought this for my then 4 yr old daughter last year for Halloween (2010). She wanted so bad to be a mermaid. i Iooked at dozens of mermaid cotumes but as i was afraid of most were too flimsy looking, or looked more like a dress than a mermaid, or were one solid color and she wanted a green tail (just like Ariel), so when i found this one i was thrilled. I usually DO order the deluxe costumes because the materials are more sturdy and can handle any alteration i have to make, so i dont mind paying a bit more. Almost every costume i've ever bought for my 4 kids over the last 15 yrs had to have some sort of alteration or tweaking, so it comes with the territory as far as costumes go, and i enjoy it! When the costume came we opened it up and my daughter loved it instantly. we tried it on, and it was REALLY long. I was expecting it to be longer because i always buy a size bigger on purpose but even if i bought her size (3T- she's small for her age) it would have been long. I bought a 4T. To fix the length, i just used safety pins along the bottom seam, i turned it inside out and gathered the material in a fold along the seam and pinned it in place. it was a tiny bit noticeable but not bad at all. We live in Texas, so our Halloweens are usually warm, but if you live in a colder climate i would suggest leggings under he skirt and a long sleeved top in a matching purple color. i put capri leggings on under it for my daughter because the skirt IS a bit thin, (like legging you'd put under a skirt). she was adorable and just LOVED it. the frilly material on the strap were a bit itchy to her, but once we got out and started trick-or-treating it wasn't a problem, she completely got caught up in the fun and didnt notice. a shirt or leotard in the same color would probably avoid the itching (but it was too hot for that in Texas lol). all-in-all this costume was brilliant, and the matching seashell bracelet that you can purchase seperately was a great touch.
