I bought this for my husband for Halloween 2011. The whole family were pirates last year. I wanted to find something comfortable and not so..."showy" or too Pirates of the Caribbean which has become a bit cliche lately as far as pirate costumes go (not that i dont like a Jack Sparrow look, but there are dozens on Halloween so he wanted something different). The pants and shirt are made very well. I was actually impressed w/the material. The material is quite thin, so if you're in a cooler climate you might need to wear something under it. I live in west Texas, and it's usually quite balmy out on Halloween so no need for extra clothing underneath the costume. The vest is a faux vest. it's sewn on the front. the back of the shirt is made of the same material as the vest on the front. sort of hard to explain, but the white shirt you see is only the front and sleeves. the back is part of the faux vest. the front vest "flaps" are sewn at the side seams, so when you tuck the shirt in, it sort of makes it difficult to get it just right so it wont look weird. After messing with it and not getting it to look right, we just said forget it and left the shirt untucked and used the belt and sash over the shirt. The pants made of good quality material (for a costume) and are really durable. The waist band is elastic all the way around so my husband was comfortable wear it, not pinching or slipping. They were a bit shorter than i thought they'd be, as the picture doesn't convey the length, it hit my husband mid-calf, and he's a short guy (5'4"). When tucked into the boot covers you really cannot tell, but to be sure they didn't slip out i pinned them to the boot cover from the inside w/a safety pin. The boot covers are made of a heavy material (probably some sort of plastic, on a fabric backing) and held up well. He had to be really careful about stretching the elastic over his shoes, the easiest way to not stress them was to loop the elastic back over the heel to the bottom instead of trying to go over the toe. The belt is made of the same material as the boot covers and has a metal slip buckle. it was awkward and does not stay fastened, so i had to get it to the desired spot and then pin it with safety pins. i covered the pinned area by looping the excess belt under and over then through itself so that the end hung down a bit, then wove the sash just as the picture shows above, under the belt and over and through to make the outfit complete. The sash itself was made of a nice LONG piece of material so we had lots to play with and get just right. the material is a velvet-esque type material (not as heavy) in texture and very soft. i loved the burgundy color. It's rough cut, so it's not a straight lined cut of material but it sort of adds to the pirate feel. the head scarf is made of the same material as the sash, which my husband said was very comfy, light weight, and easy to adjust and tie. The head scarf didn't have as much give as you see in the picture and fit more snug to his head than the model here, but i still looked nice. It made it through the night just fine and is in the same condition as it was when we first pulled it out of the bag. very impressed with this costume for the price.

I bought this for my husband for a work Halloween Party. We always dress in couples costumes, so this year we decided to go as pirates. I have always had great experience with buy costumes so I decided to buy from them again. I bought my husband his costume in a size large. He is 5'10" and 180Lbs. I wanted him to be comfortable so I bought it a bit big. I was glad I did because it was a perfect fit! The only complaint I have is the belt was cheap and didn't stay up but it could be safety pinned in place. I went as the women's swash-bucker pirate, which the fabric matched this costume. We got great reviews at the party and were overall pleased with our purchase.

I ordered this custome for a party on a cruise ship. Although the party is later on, I think this custome is going to work out just fine. I am 5'7" tall and weigh about 170lbs. When considering the size, I ordered the X-Large. My wife and I will have to do a little work on the pants, but by buying the X-large size we have that option. The large may have been fine, but I didn't want to take that chance. The quality of the shirt and vest is good, and they fit fine. The pants are very nice (but no fly). The Burgundy bandana and waist sash are great and of good quality. We will have to work on the belt (will have to use a little velcro to hold and fasten). We will not be using the boot tops (have no way to keep them up). Instead I have ordered the Hook (black) adult boots (to be reviewed later). Have not decided on a wig yet...still looking. Overall, I am very pleased with the costume and think it will work out fine for our ship's party.

I bought this costume for my husband who is 6ft 2in and according to the size guide the L would have been ok for him. Well..I erred on the side of caution and ordered the XL. The top which was one piece, shirt and waistcoat combined was way too small - the sleleves were 5in too short, maybe they'd been shrunk by the sea water whilst he was sailing!!! Due to the poor fit and that the shirt was see-through he needed to wear a t-shirt underneath, which ruined the look. The pants were a challenge to keep up as they were too big on the waist! The belt included was no help at all - it was a piece of plastic but despite the buckle there was no way to keep it fastened. The bandana and sash were as expected. The boot tops had a piece of elastic to secure them underfoot. One of these broke as soon as my husband put it on and we then needed to repair it before the costume could be worn. Overall extremely poor quality, uncomfortable to wear, he needed two belts in the end to secure everything in place!

IThe costume looked good and fit pretty well. There were a couple of things that I noticed that I wasn't too happy with. First off, the pants were a little short. I'm 6'2" and ordered an XL. The pants kept coming out of the boot covers. Secondly, the strap on one of the boot covers broke immediately when trying to put it under my boot. Third, the sash that comes with it that is supposed to go under the belt kept curling up and just wouldn't look right without safety pins holding it in place. Not a bad costume, just a couple of things that could have been improved.
