14 Awesome Things we Found at Comic-Con
Thursday was the first day of San Diego Comic-Con 2014! Massive crowds gathered from around the world to check out the biggest convention of its kind, anywhere.
We were able to attend too! Our colleague Dotty went on a mission to gather research for upcoming Halloween costumes (though we think she may have just wanted to get out of the office for a few days), and sent us back these fantastic photos.
Here’s a small sample of the things we found at Comic-Con: Day One!
A chorus line of Michael Myers-es.
Why a couple of them seem to be out of sync, we’re not sure. Still, this picture proves that horror is alive and well, even in July!
This giant Homer Dome.
Mmm… donuts. Inside this just offsite installation, Simpsons fans can get free food, take in a 4-D video experience, and join in an attempt at the Guinness World Record for the most individuals contributing to paint by number.
Free pizza, thanks to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Just outside Petco Park the Turtles were handing out pizza by the slice to hungry fans. We couldn’t think of a more appropriate TMNT themed giveaway if we tried.
They brought the Turtle Van, too.
Food isn’t just better when it’s free. It’s also better when it’s served from the embodiment of childhood nostalgia. Maybe there will be free pizza at the new Bay movie, too…
Speaking of vans, Mutt Cutts!
From the Dumb and Dumber series, it’s the best worst idea ever. Decorating a vehicle like that in real life was unarguably a good idea, though.
Ubisoft set up a real-life Assassin’s Creed obstacle course.
This was an awesome way to showcase some set pieces from Unity, which is coming out in October. We think they made this for anyone who has ever played a game and thought, “I could totally do that if I really wanted to.” Here was the chance for gamers to prove their stuff!
The line to get in was longer than anything else.
Naturally – it’s one of the most popular gaming franchises, period. The main panel is tomorrow, and we’re only expecting greatness. By the way, if you’re looking for an Assassin’s Creed Unity costume, you might want to take care of that pre-order now.
This giant Evolve statue.
Evolve is a new first-person shooter and survival game hybrid developed by Turtle Rock: the minds behind zombie game masterpiece Left 4 Dead. What’s the next step from zombies? Mutated dinosaurs, clearly. The game will be coming to the Xbox One, PS4, and PC in October.
Huge monsters seemed to be a reoccuring theme.
That Evolve creature was pretty sweet, but for us, nothing compares to the original kaiju. A massive Godzilla sculpture graced this exhibition as signs warned, “The King of the Monsters lies ahead.”
A miniature Gotham City.
This small-scale Gotham, to go along with the new show on Fox, had a zip-line running along its entire length. No need to bring your own Bat-gadgets here! Here’s a .gif of Dotty’s run:
Awesome Sin City cars.
These are taken right out of the upcoming film, A Dame To Kill For. An awesome comic book backdrop made everything look even more real.
The biggest Skylander we’ve ever seen.
Eruptor is just one of the characters that will be featured in the new Skylanders game, Trap Team, this October. (We remember when Spyro was the star of all his own games.)
This real Magneto helmet.
This uber-collectible item was up for grabs at the X-Men booth. Any X-Men superfan would love it! We’re not sure about it’s telepathy-blocking powers, though.
Dotty couldn’t resist posing with the X-Men, either.
We’ll leave it at that for now! Stay tuned for more photos coming up.
