The night was warm and the air wet when I stumbled into the dimly lit room. The only light was that of the streetlamp outside the window. Perhaps that second scotch was a bit much, but it was a long day. My mind drifted back to the case I’d been working on. Something just doesn’t add up. It was about then when I flipped the switch on the lamp. There she was by the door, looking like an angel. She threw a coy glance over her shoulder, a halo of white seemed to surround her golden hair. A hasty glance at the clock reminded me of just how long I was at the office going over those files. Then I knew…I missed dinner. As I approached I could see that the dish was empty. How long had she been sitting there…waiting…like an angel. Well, there’s only one way to make up for this kind of neglect. Someone’s getting steak tonight!
