Can’t-Miss Costume Events: August 25 Edition

Can’t-Miss Costume Events: August 25 Edition

It’s getting to be that time of the year! Halloween season is getting closer, and horror conventions are starting to ramp up – the perfect way to whet your appetite for October 31. Our list of conventions for this week happens to include some of the biggest and best horror cons around, so read on to learn more.

Plenty of Time to Plan: (September 7 – September 13)

Fanboy Expo (Tampa, FL)

The Tampa leg of Fanboy Expo is one-half of an event that’s also coming to Knoxville, Tennessee, in November. Comic book artist Angel Medina (Spiderman, Spawn) is just one of the awesome guests that will be at both events.

Hawaii Con (Kohala, HI)
Hawaii Con is actually a pretty small event, but it deserves a mention just because of how unique it is. Unlike like other cons, which might be confined to a stuffy hotel or expo center, Hawaii Con fuses the convention experience with a luxury tropical vacation. Star guests aren’t just reserved to panels – con goers can snorkel, surf, and explore the island right along with them!

Montreal Comic Con (Montreal, QC)

The Montreal Comic Con (or as the Québécois might say, Le Comiccon de Montréal) is one of the biggest events of its type in North America, with nearly 50,000 annual visitors. Since everything at the event has a bilingual focus, it draws a huge crowd of European convention-goers, as well.

Nan Desu Kan (Denver, CO)
NDK is the biggest anime convention in the Denver area, and it’s also the site of a preliminary round of the World Cosplay Summit. Yeah, costumes are kind of a big deal here.

The ScareFest (Lexington, KY)

This is the big one – “America’s Top Horror and Paranormal Convention.” Why should you check it out? Well, the video explains it better than we ever could. (Seriously, it looks amazing.)

SCARE-A-CON (Verona, NY)
It’s like a marathon, but scary. It doesn’t have all of the running, either. So, it’s really not like a marathon at all. It’s going to be a great show though – the new paranormal reality series, Ghost Asylum, will be premiering exclusively at the con!

Son of Monsterpalooza (Burbank, CA)

One more horror convention to mention: this year’s Monsterpalooza will feature plenty of panels with the artists behind franchises like Godzilla and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Tons of visual effects and makeup artists are going to be there too, including Cinema Makeup School (we were able to catch them at Comic-Con this year – they do amazing stuff).
