Can’t-Miss Costume Events: August 4 Edition
We took a week off to recover from Comic-Con (as many others may have, too). But, this week we’re back to let you know about other great conventions and costume events around North America. Also, since we missed a week, we’re going double-time.

Plenty of Time to Plan: (August 17 – August 23)
Anime California (Garden Grove, CA)
Anime California is a new event, but with over 17,000 Facebook followers already, it’s shaping up to be a good one. Cosplay contests and eSports tournaments are set to dominate the weekend.
Anime Revolution (Vancouver, BC)
Here’s one from north of the border. It’s a big one, too, with thousands of annual visitors. More commonly known as “ANIREVO,” this event is definitely crazy about anime. Guests include superstar cosplayer and promo model Jessica Nigri, voice actor Vic Mignogna (Full Metal Alchemist, Street Fighter II, and a lot more) and industry guests from anime streaming service Crunchyroll.
SaikouCon (Breinigsville, PA)
Literally translated, “SaikouCon” means “best convention.” It’s the first anime convention of its type in the Lehigh Valley area, so check it out and help it grow if you’re around!
Wizard World Chicago/Chicago Comic Con (Chicago, IL)
It’s one of the very best in the midwest! As a matter of fact, it’s the best conventions in the midwest in terms of attendence. Only New York Comic-Con and San Diego Comic-Con itself are larger. Click here to check out the star-studded guest list, which includes cast members of just about everything from Star Trek to WWE.
WVPopCon (Morgantown, WV)
This year’s guests at the biggest pop culture convention in West Virginia include Star Wars costumers Rebel Legion and actor Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Criminal Minds).
Happening Next Week: (August 10 – August 16)
AnimeFest (Dallas, TX)
AnimeFest has grown from only about a hundred guests in 1992, to nearly 10,000 currently. That also means it’s one of the oldest and longest-running anime conventions in the country. This year, the guests of honor are Japanese rock band FLOW who have contributed to many anime soundtracks, including Naruto and Code Geass.
Connecticut ComiCONN (Bridgeport, CT)
The biggest convention in Connecticut is bringing the big guns: the 1966 Batmobile and Batcycle, the Dark Knight Trilogy’s Batpod and Bat Tumbler, and the last three Doctors’ TARDISes will all be there! An adults-only cosplay contest is also on the docket, as well as one that’s just for kids.
Delta H Con (Houston, TX)
Also known as “54 Hours of Anime and Gaming,” according to their website. Sounds like a plan! A weekend packed full of cosplay and game tournaments will be capped off by an enchanted forest-themed formal dance.
River City Comic Expo (Little Rock, AR)
Not only is it Arkansas’ largest entertainment convention, but there’s a gaming pun built right into the event name. Aside from the standard panel format, attractions will include an interactive ghost hunting expedition and costume parade.
