Can’t-Miss Costume Events: Monday, July 14 Edition

Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten: we know you’re still getting ready for Comic-Con in couple of weeks. But, there’s plenty of other conventions to attend in the meantime, and to plan for afterwards! Here are our picks for this week’s post.

Check out the Events page on to get ideas and gear up for all kinds of events. Whether you’re into comic cons or Renaissance faires, there’s something for everyone and for every occasion.

Plenty of Time to Plan: (July 27 – August 2)

  • Bronycon (Baltimore, MD)
Yes, we’re going there. Love it or hate it, the trend behind My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is definitely a real thing, and absolutely a polarizing piece of recent Internet zeitgeist. Bronycon itself has grown from barely a hundred to nearly 10,000 visitors in just a few short years, making it one of the faster growing fandom events of any kind anywhere.
  • CONjure (Orlando, FL)
This three day multi-genre pop culture event out of Orlando is dedicated to all things anime, science fiction, comics, and gaming. Kids are more than welcome, too, with special cosplay contests and panels just for them.
  • Go! Daiko-Con (Pontiac, MI)
The theme at this year’s Go! Daiko-Con is Fairy Tales, so we can only imagine there’ll be healthy dose of Disney cosplay mixed in with the anime. Tons of gaming tournaments with awesome prizes and an exhibition room dedicated solely to J-rock are just some of the special attractions
  • KuroNekoCon (Spokane, WA)
Spokane’s Premier Anime Event is in its sixth year of operation this year. From cosplay contests to skit contests to foam sword fighting tournaments, there is quite literally something for everyone.
  • Omnicon (McAllen, TX)
Omnicon returns to Texas this year with a focus on video games, comics, music, and anime, to entertain a crowd that numbers well in the thousands. Guests this year include superstar cosplayers Nicole Marie Jean and Spencer Doe.
  • Pokemon Festival 2014 (McAllen, TX)
Coincidentally taking place in the same city as Omnicon, Pokemon Festival serves as a gathering place for trainers of all ages.
