Plenty of Time to Plan: (July 20 – 26)

  • Comic-Con International: San Diego (San Diego, CA)
Here it is, the big one – so big, it defies alphabetical order. If you’re lucky enough to be going to the United States’ largest comic and multimedia convention this year, then you’ll be one of 130,000+ visitors getting the Comic-Con experience. The list of special guests is as huge as ever, and you can bet costumes will be in full force too.
  • Anime Festival Orlando (Orlando, FL)
“Florida’s Favorite Anime Convention” is turning 15 this year!  Featured guests Kari Wahlgren and Christina Vee are two of the biggest video game, anime, and Western animation voice actors around, and the annual cosplay contest is always awesome.
  • AnimeIowa (Coralville, IA)
2014 is “Year of the Pirate” at this anime convention, so swashbuckling pirate costumes are more than encouraged. If you’re feeling fancy, you might be interested in AnimeIowa’s Formal Ball – dance and waltz to your heart’s content, while portraying your favorite characters in costume!
  • Indiana Toy and Comic Expo (Indianapolis, IN)
The second annual installment of this event will see appearances by Star Wars costuming groups 501st Legion and Rebel Legion. Vintage toys from the 1970s to today are definitely the focus, but there’s something for everyone. It’s a new con that’s looking to be among the best in the midwest!
  • InvaderCON III: Final Doom (Austin, TX)
Through its first two years, InvaderCON took place in Atlanta, followed by Los Angeles, but now it’s invading Texas. A convention dedicated solely to the cartoon Invader Zim might seem a little niche, but after a successful Kickstarter campaign, has amassed over 10 thousand fans on Facebook.
  • Nagu Con (Helena, MT)
This fifth-year event based out of Montana is on the smaller side, but it’s quality – not quantity – that matters. If you’re in the area, check it out and help it grow!
