The Must-Have Star Wars VII Costumes for Halloween 2015
Back when the first wave of teasers and trailers for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens was taking the Internet by storm in early 2015, we jumped on the over-analyzers’ bandwagon, much like many Star Wars super-fans did. In our original Star Wars VII blog, we took a look at those precious few, glorious moments of footage over and over again to get ideas for Star Wars VII costumes.
Now that #ForceFriday is upon us, we know a lot more about the story, characters, and costumes behind Star Wars VII, so it’s time for an update. For Halloween, these are going to be the must-have looks for any Star Wars fan. Keep on reading to learn more about our favorite characters and costumes from The Force Awakens.
Captain Phasma
Well, that’s terrifying.
Even if you’re not the biggest Star Wars fan around, chances are you’re already familiar with Captain Phasma. She’s been among the most-trending topics of 2015, stemming from a comment posted to the official Star Wars Facebook page in late August. Basically, a user made a remark about her armor not being “feminine enough,” to which Star Wars came back with a perfect mic-dropping moment:

Great response, or greatest response? Phasma’s silver-chrome suit of modded Stormtrooper armor is one of the coolest things we’ve ever seen in a Star Wars movie. Combined with the fact that she commands legions of Stormtroopers and is a key player in The First Order’s plans to control the galaxy, she’s solidified in our minds as the ultimate Star Wars femme fatale and a top-tier badass in general.
Kylo Ren
LucasFilm, Walt Disney Pictures
As another villain making his debut in Star Wars: Episode VII, Kylo Ren has been getting a lot of attention on the Internet, too. Mostly, it’s been due to the design of his lightsaber. In the climactic shot of the first Star Wars VII trailer, we see Kylo in a dark forest, drawing his weapon against an unseen enemy (who, as seen in a later teaser, turns out be Finn). The blade comes out, followed by two smaller beams of light on the hilt.
The response to the saber’s crossguarded zweihander look was probably the most polarizing reaction to anything about the new Star Wars. Either you thought it was super dumb (how could you not hurt yourself using that thing?) or the raddest thing ever (what’s not to like about more light saber blades?). Love it or hate it, you have to admit, it’s definitely original.
Rey
On to the good guys! Rey is one of the newest Star Wars heroes, and, like Kylo Ren, she also appeared in the first Force Awakens trailer. A desert scavenger on the plant Jakku, we caught a glimpse of her riding through the sands on a speeder bike. (Speaking of which, we also caught a glimpse of the actual speeder bike prop used in the trailer when we went Comic-Con this year.)
Her droid friend, BB-8, is proving to be popular, too. Not only is he totally adorable, but LucasFilm blew everyone’s minds when they revealed that his soccer ball-style of locomotion was actually a practical effect, and not CGI.
Even better: while you could probably make a pretty convincing BB-8 costume prop out of a couple of Styrofoam balls, they’re actually making a legit BB-8 that you can control with a smartphone app. We haven’t been this excited for Star Wars toys since Kylo Ren’s lightsaber.
Finn
LucasFilm, Walt Disney Pictures
Along with Rey, Finn is one of the unlikely heroes that finds himself with the fate of the galaxy in his hands. He’s the unmasked Stormtrooper that we’ve seen the trailers, running through the Jakku deserts after being separated from his unit.
Yeah, that doesn’t look good.
Fortunately, we’re pretty sure that both Finn and Rey make it out of there, considering we’ve seen them both in other scenes from other trailers.
Star Wars: Episode VII Costumes
Each of these new characters brings a new look to the screen, and we’ve got the best of the best on BuyCostumes.com. All of our new costumes from The Force Awakens are officially licensed and feature stunning attention to detail, making them perfect for casual fans and die-hards, alike.
Use Rey and Finn costumes to go out for Halloween as the cutest Star Wars couple since Leia and Han. Or, if you’d rather embrace the Dark Side, celebrate the evil alliance between the Knights of Ren and the First Order as Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma. Classic Stormtrooper costumes – and their newest variant, the Flametrooper – are here, too.
However you decide to show your fandom for Halloween, may the Force be with you!
