Wizard of Oz Costumes

Wizard of Oz Costumes

At, we love The Wizard of Oz! 2014 marks the 75th anniversary of the classic 1939 film, and Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return came out just this past May. (Did you see it? What did you think?)

All of that means that Wizard of Oz costumes are going to be bigger than ever this year. Keep on reading to get ideas!

This Dorothy costume for kids looks just like it did in the movie, and the adult version does too. It’s so detailed that it even includes the blue and white hair ties.

Is that not the cutest Toto you’ve ever seen? Actually, it’s just a prop. If you really want the best Dorothy costume of all time, though, and you happen to already be the proud owner of a toy dog that fits the bill, you can always carry it to the costume party in a real wicker basket!

Everyone knows about the iconic ruby red slippers from the movie, but did you know they were originally silver? They were made red just to show off the abilities of Technicolor filming.

Still, as sure as Dorothy learned that “there’s no place like home,” there are no slippers like ruby red when it comes to crafting your own Wizard of Oz costume. These are covered with a plethora of shining sequins (sorry, the real rubies are out of stock) that look just like the film. They’re available in adult sizes, too.

Of course, if you’re looking to portray the Wicked Witch of the West, you’ll need some witchy shoes to complete your costume. Those ruby reds are for stealing, not for wearing! Green and black striped tights make them work even better.

Every other Wizard of Oz character needs the perfect accessories to go with their costumes as well. The Tin Man needs his ticker – a heart shaped clock – and the Cowardly Lion needs his badge of courage.

Magic wands aren’t just a necessary accessory to complete your Glinda the Good Witch costume (don’t forget the tiara, either), but they can also be used as decorations and fabulous cupcake toppers! If you’re looking to throw a Wizard of Oz birthday party for your child, that’s a great idea to use.

How many bricks are in the yellow brick road? How many different Wizard of Oz movie adaptations have there ever been? How much more money did Toto make on the film than the Munchkins?
